Delmanor Wynford's Support of Wellspring Centre

Anne Armstrong Gibson founded Wellspring in 1992.  After being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1988, she met many fears; but what she feared most was the  isolation that came during her treatment period.  This loneliness led her to attempt to fill this void for others who may be in a similar situation that she experienced.

Anne worked with oncology experts, families and friends of those living with cancer to create WellspringWellspring is a  not for profit organization that provides psychological, emotional, social, spiritual, and informational support to individuals and their families that are living with cancer.  Her idea was extremely well received as the need for this type of service was clearly evident by the  number of enrollments she received almost immediately.  Wellspring has since grown to 10 locations across Canada! Since Anne's passing in 1995, each Wellspring location keeps her vision alive by providing an innovative and creative approach to the overall care of a person living with cancer.

The Delmanor Wynford 'Knit Wits' Knitting Club were inspired this year to knit something in support of those that are living with cancer.  After seeing a fellow resident bravely battle her illness, the Knitters wanted to create a project to help support those that are fighting the disease.  After speaking with representatives from Wellspring, the 'Knit Wits' learned that Wellspring requires that all people who enter the building during the winter months wear slippers in order to keep the floors safe and clean for everyone.  The 'Knit Wits' were thrilled with the opportunity to knit slippers and donate them to the Centre for the winter season.

In less than one month, the 'Knit Wits' had knit 22 pairs of slippers, and the knitting continues!  The Delmanor Wynford residents visited Wellspring Centre themselves to deliver the slippers that they had created.  A Wellspring coordinator gratefully accepted the wonderful and thoughtful donations for the house and gave the Wynford group a tour of the building.  All of the Wellspring staff and volunteers were overjoyed with the beautiful slippers and the skill and time that the residents donated to them!  Wellspring is such a wonderful haven for those battling cancer in order to feel safe and less isolated.  Way to go Delmanor Wynford 'Knit Wits"!  You have amazed us all yet again!
