Delmanor Northtown Children’s Holiday Party!

Everyone stopped to watch with joy as Delmanor Northtown's Resident Santa came into the lounge at Delmanor Northtown with a “Ho Ho Ho" that filled the halls with joy. The spirit of the holidays was abundant with Santa’s arrival at Delmanor Northtown's  Children's Holiday Party that kept the spirit of Christmas alive for all.

There were many fun activities and a variety of games for the children to participate in, whether they were five months or fifteen years of age. The wonderful seasonal decorations and favourite party foods added to the fantastic ambiance of the event.

There was a resident photographer to capture the warm moments shared. The residents dressed up as Elves and Santa’s helpers, that were happy to assist Santa with the handing out of gifts, selected especially for each child.

Delmanor Northtown gave everyone a fun opportunity to see the holidays through the eyes of young children. Many residents commented that they are all just like one big family, that celebrates all of the holidays together!

Happy Holidays from everyone at Delmanor Northtown!

Steps to LivingWell

December is typically a busy month with social engagements, house guests, visiting, shopping and all the other “to-dos”, and can be stressful and overwhelming for many.  The holidays can bring additional stress from multiple travel plans, changes in routines and even seasonal depression.  Try these five helpful tips to minimize your stress.
1.     Set realistic goals: During the holiday season visiting family and friends is always on the list.  Make sure you schedule ample rest time throughout and allow for plenty of transportation time in between visits so there’s no rushing.
2.     Keep set schedules: You’re used to waking, eating and going to bed at a certain time, make sure to respect your schedules.  Staying up late and eating later can cause stress and be difficult to adjust to.
3.     Keep expenses to a minimum:  Travel, gifts and eating out at fancy restaurants can start to take their toll on the cheque book, so create a realistic budget and stick to it.
4.     Plan appropriately:  A six-hour shopping trip may not be the best idea, with lots of walking, crowds and long periods of standing.
5.     Keep friends and family around you:  Holidays can also bring sadness for many.  Be sure not to isolate yourself.

With some practical tips, you can minimize the stress that can accompany the holidays. You may even end up enjoying the holidays more than you thought you would.  Best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy holiday season.

The Delmanor Senior Men's Bonspiel

The Oakville Curling Club has been a landmark in the heart of downtown Oakville since its establishment in 1954. Throughout the years the OCC has played host to several high profile events and bonspiels at the local, provincial and national level – seeing some of the greatest Canadian curlers “sweep” through their doors.

The Senior Men’s Bonspiel celebrated its 23rd installment in early December with Delmanor Glen Abbey being the title sponsor for the past 6 years. The Bonspiel saw 32 teams (128 curlers) take part in one of the OCC’s highest profile events of the year. Drawing from teams throughout the GTA, the 3 day Bonspiel was highlighted by the annual “First Rock Ceremony” and Procession as well as the prize and trophy presentation.

Delmanor Glen Abbey is proud to support community organizations such as the Oakville Curling Club in their efforts to promote physical fitness through social, recreational and competitive curling. First Rock “Skip” Bill, one of the pioneers of the OCC/Delmanor Senior Men’s Bonspiel, that is 96 years young is proof that everyone can enjoy one of Canada’s truly great sports!

The Richmond Hill Santa Claus Parade

The Delmanor Elgin Mills team members and residents joined the Richmond Hill Santa Claus Parade for this wonderful annual holiday tradition. The theme of the parade this year was "Christmas Morning".  Everyone in attendance donned their pajamas and housecoats with a warm cup of coffee to symbolize their idea of what Christmas morning was all about!

The Delmanor Elgin Mills Planning Committee had a great time brainstorming creative ideas for the Delmanor float, but in the end it was decided that "Merry the Moose", riding the Delmanor bus (sleigh) was the best idea to represent Delmanor Elgin Mills!  The Delmanor bus was decorated with stockings, coffee cups and presents - everything that Christmas morning meant to everyone on board.

The Delmanor residents sat on the bus and waved to the Richmond Hill community through the windows  The neighbourhood was thrilled with the Delmanor float as always.  On-lookers greeted the residents with hellos and shouts of recognition.  The Delmanor residents  sang Christmas carols on board the bus and reminisced about Christmases gone by.  Everyone at Delmanor Elgin Mills loves this time of year!

A "Coffee Break" at Delmanor Elgin Mills

Coffee Break is the Alzheimer Society's major nationwide annual fundraiser where friends, co-workers and community members gather in cities across Canada to raise funds for local Alzheimer Societies.  Participants at these events make a donation in exchange for a cup of coffee.  The money that is raised through the fundraiser stays in that province or community to help support local programs or services.

The fantastic Delmanor Elgin Mills team members prepared delicious home made treats for the guests to enjoy with their coffee as they were entertained by the "Sparklettes".  The fundraiser was a wonderful success!  The Coffee Break Annual Fundraisers help raise much needed funds for local programs and services for people with Alzheimer's Disease and their caregivers.  The sponsors and participants make a dramatic difference in the lives of those living with the disease.
