Delmanor Glen Abbey Hosts a 'Kris Kringle" Pancake Breakfast

On the Friday before Christmas, the residents of Delmanor Glen Abbey were treated to a 'Kris Kringle" Pancake Breakfast.

The festive breakfast event was complete with all of the fixings; bacon, sausage and a selection of various fresh fruits.  With cozy holiday hits playing softly in the background, the seniors shared Christmas traditions and family memories among friends.

This warm holiday event provided a fantastic opportunity for some of the most recent Delmanor Glen Abbey residents to be introduced and acquainted with new friends, along with the wonderful Delmanor Glen Abbey staff.

The residents and staff at Delmanor Glen Abbey wish everyone the very best this holiday season, with health and happiness for 2015.

Delmanor Elgin Mills Annual Holiday Concert!

The talented choir of Delmanor Elgin Mills, named the "Choristers" is led by Kathy Thompson, the Delmanor Elgin Mills 'Singing for Wellness' instructor.  The choir has been practicing tirelessly, rehearsing favourite Christmas Carols for the highly anticipated holiday concert.

All of the non-choir residents from Delmanor Elgin Mills, along with friends and family members, came out to the Christmas Concert to support the choir and to help spread holiday cheer.

The annual Delmanor Elgin Mills Choir Concert is thoroughly enjoyed each year by everyone who participates and attends this event.  The 2014 Concert certainly did not disappoint!  Everyone had a wonderful time and guests commented on the fantastic vocal talents of the Delmanor Elgin Mills Seniors.

Delmanor Glen Abbey & The Teddy Bear & Mitten Tree

Throughout the month of December, the residents and staff at Delmanor Glen Abbey generously decorated a special tree for under privledged children in Oakville. Plush animals were selected with care and then gently placed on the tree, along with mittens and hats for less fortunate children in the community.

The Delmanor Glen Abbey knitting group made approximately 60 pairs of cozy mittens for children of all ages.  The unique tree and mitten concept has been admired by everyone at Delmanor Glen Abbey.  Residents and visitors alike have commented on this special fundraising venture and how happy they were to support it.

Members of the local Fire Department will be distributing the collected items to those less fortunate to make Christmas a little brighter & a little warmer for many children in the local community.  Thanks to the efforts by the residents and staff of Delmanor Glen Abbey for spreading true Christmas cheer in the spirit of the holidays.

Delmanor Northtown residents love to rejoice in the holiday season!

The seniors and staff began the festivities with a day of "decking the halls", that included warm beverages and sweet treats.  The entire retirement community is cheerful with the merriest of Christmas and Hanukkah decorations.

Mary & Keri Decking the Halls

A special holiday evening was held with a truly delicious festive buffet, accompanied by live entertainment.  The residents, family members, and close friends were invited to share in this treasured Christmas tradition, creating new and wonderful memories. Guests of all ages were awestruck by the amazing displays of appetizers prepared by the Delmanor Chefs, along with a private dining room that was devoted entirely to sinful desserts!

The Delmanor seniors love to surround themselves with neighbours and friends, and even more so during the holidays.  The tranquil sounds of choirs have filled the lounge and corridors performing heartfelt holidays songs to even further enhance the quality time spent with loved ones.

With all of the happiness and joy felt at Delmanor Northtown, the seniors did not forget to give back as they are so very known to do.  The residents set up a special collection that they devoted to their favourite charity.  The feelings of love and good will can be felt everywhere at Delmanor Northtown, and it is no wonder that residents can't help but feel that it is really "the most wonderful time of the year"!

Delmanor Wynford Supporting Fit Seniors!

In the early hours of the morning, a savvy group of over 120 members convene under the dimmed lighting inside Eglinton Square Shopping Mall.  The devoted fitness enthusiasts avoid the perils of sidewalk snow and ice to complete their daily workout in the comfortable conditions of the mall, before any of the shoppers arrive.

The Eglinton Square Mall Walking Club members know that maintaining fitness is important at all ages.  Studies have shown that 2 1/2 hours of walking per week can cut the risk of cardiovascular disease by 50%!

Delmanor Wynford was on hand to support this group of walkers, providing pedometers, snacks, and water to the participants.  Delmanor Wynford looks forward to continuing to support this walking group in the years to come.

Steps to LivingWell

December is typically a busy month with social engagements, house guests, visiting, shopping and all the other “to-dos”, and can be stressful and overwhelming for many.  The holidays can bring additional stress from multiple travel plans, changes in routines and even seasonal depression.  Try these five helpful tips to minimize your stress.
1.     Set realistic goals: During the holiday season visiting family and friends is always on the list.  Make sure you schedule ample rest time throughout and allow for plenty of transportation time in between visits so there’s no rushing.

2.     Keep set schedules: You’re used to waking, eating and going to bed at a certain time, make sure to respect your schedules.  Staying up late and eating later can cause stress and be difficult to adjust to.

3.     Keep expenses to a minimum:  Travel, gifts and eating out at fancy restaurants can start to take their toll on the cheque book, so create a realistic budget and stick to it.

4.     Plan appropriately:  A six-hour shopping trip may not be the best idea, with lots of walking, crowds and long periods of standing.

5.     Keep friends and family around you:  Holidays can also bring sadness for many.  Be sure not to isolate yourself.

With some practical tips, you can minimize the stress that can accompany the holidays. You may even end up enjoying the holidays more than you thought you would.  Best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy holiday season.
