Delmanor Northtown Spring Dance!

Delmanor Northtown residents and invited guests welcomed the glorious spring weather by kicking up their heels at the Delmanor Northtown Spring Dance.

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time listening to the delightful music by the 3 piece band.  Guests were treated to a lovely assortment of hors d'oeuvres and refreshments throughout the evening.

As part of the "Delmanor Northtown Gives Back Initiative", the proceeds that were raised from the dance were donated to the North York Women's Shelter.  Delmanor Northtown has a fantastic reputation for their dances and this one certainly lived up to that reputation.

Dancing is a wonderful activity to boost fitness levels, improve posture and balance, help reduce stress, and to meet new people.

Victorian Fashions Come to Delmanor Elgin Mills!

The Victorian Era of fashion refers to the period between 1830 and 1900 in the United Kingdom and British Empire.

Fashions from this time period were very elaborated. A lady's dress affected the way she walked, sat and moved her arms.  Getting dressed each day for women of this time period was quite an event, but the results were simply stunning.

Nancy MacLeod has been presenting Victorian Fashion Shows for 30 years.  She came to Delmanor Elgin Mills to the delight of residents and guests.  The seniors marveled in the beautiful gowns with glorious details and stunning embellishments.  The highlight of the event was the unique opportunity for the residents and guests to model the lovely fashions.

Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying and appreciating what many would argue to be the most beautiful era in fashion history.

Spring Brunch Celebrations with Delmanor Wynford

The St. Bonaventure Catholic Women's League held their Spring Brunch at The Donalda Club in Toronto.  Delmanor Wynford was thrilled to take part in this event by presenting a Delmanor tote bag filled with a wonderful assortment of gifts to a lucky draw winner.

The Spring Brunch was attended by 85 members of the Catholic Women's League.  The guests dined on a lovely buffet of salads, smoked salmon, an array of breakfast items, chicken, pasta, mixed vegetables and a deliciously tender prime rib of beef.

The winner of the Delmanor tote Mary Kay Day
After being treated to such an extravagant meal, the guests could barely find room for dessert.  However, when the delectable dessert table was presented, many of the guests indulged in the decadent treats.  Following the wonderful meal, the women were entertained with fun games and prizes.

Unlike similar events from the Catholic Women's League, there was no speaker at this event.  Instead, 5 women were honoured with the Catholic Women's League of Canada, Maple Leaf Service Award.  This award was introduced in 1971 for members that have served the League in an exceptional or meritorious manner.

Everyone had a fantastic time at this event and once again, Delmanor Wynford was very happy to have been a sponsor for this group of inspirational women.

LivingWell Lecture Series Featuring Dave Devall!

Everyone knows Dave Devall as the iconic weather reporter for the Toronto station CFTO-TV.  Beginning his career in 1961, Dave has been and inspiration and pioneer for TV broadcasting and meteorology.  Dave has likely been a part of your family's nightly routine for more than 48 years, there is however much more to Dave Devall than simply the weather.

Dave shared his very interesting life with Delmanor Seniors Communities in his 'behind the scenes' presentation as part of Delmanor's LivingWell Lecture Series.    The seniors at all five Delmanor properties were given this unique inside look into Dave's exciting career both in front of and away from the camera.

While studying radio and television arts, Dave served on the RCAF where he also studied meteorology.  This passion led Dave to receive the Guiness World Record for the longest career as a weather forecaster, quite an impressive accomplishment!

All of the Delmanor seniors were enchanted by Dave's wit and his fun and whimsical outlook on life. After the entertaining presentation, the residents and guests were invited to meet Dave personally and have a photo taken with him.

Since Dave's retirement in 2009, he has continued to give back to the community with extensive work for local charities including Dave's Golf Tournament, Toronto Humane Society and many more including inspirational talks such as the LivingWell Lecture Series Events enjoyed by Delmanor Seniors Communities.

Steps to LivingWell

Foot pain and discomfort are common among older adults — decades of walking, standing and general wear and tear are hard on your feet. In fact, 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 suffer from foot pain, aches or stiffness.
As you age, your feet go through changes that may lead to foot problems, even if you've never experienced problems in the past. Feet tend to spread, often causing your shoe size to change, and arches become flatter and less flexible. You lose much of the cushioning under the ball of your foot and your heel. The skin on your feet gets thinner and loses elasticity, making you more susceptible to injuries and infection. Additionally, conditions such as diabetes, obesity, arthritis and circulatory problems may increase your risk of developing foot problems.

The good news is that most foot problems can be treated effectively. By practicing a few healthy habits, you can help prevent many common problems, as well as identify signs of more serious conditions. Be kind to your feet by:
·        Washing them often. Be sure to dry them thoroughly before putting on socks or shoes.
·        Checking them regularly. Look for cuts, blisters, bumps, bruises or ingrown toenails.
·        Wear properly fitting shoes. Poor fitting shoes are one of the main causes of foot problems.
Your feet have been supporting you for years – return the favour by giving them a little extra attention.
Brought to you by your LivingWell Coaches.

Appreciating Volunteers at Delmanor Elgin Mills!

Volunteers are those fantastic individuals that engage in activities to promote goodness and improve the quality of life of others.

The residents and staff of Delmanor Elgin Mills recognize the significant contributions made by the volunteers of the retirement community.  To thank them for their selfless devotion, a volunteer dinner was held at Delmanor Elgin Mills for all of the community and resident volunteers.

The annual Volunteer Dinner featured a wonderful 3-course gourmet meal created by the Delmanor Elgin Mills Culinary Team.  Guests chatted about many of the wonderful events that were held at the retirement community in the past year, while a table side magician delighted guests with his fun and mind-blowing acts.

Although the volunteers of Delmanor Elgin Mills are appreciated each and every day, this annual dinner, held during National Volunteer Month, provides an opportunity to thank the volunteers for how much of an impact they have on the seniors of Delmanor Elgin Mills.

Each of the volunteer guests of honour were given a certificate of service by Richmond Hill MP Costas Menegakis.  Everyone had a wonderful time honouring the special people who give so much of their free time to help others.
