Celebrating Five Wonderful Years at Delmanor Northtown

It is hard to imagine for many of the Delmanor Northtown residents and staff that it has been five years since Tridel's newest, independent living retirement residence first opened its magnificent doors to the community.

To celebrate this wonderful occasion, guests from past and present were invited to celebrate and raise a glass to toast five fantastic years filled with friendships and wonderful memories.

Patrick, Dining Room Manager

The event was truly captivating.  The entire evening was a very worthy tribute to the residents, staff and exceptional retirement community that is known as Delmanor Northtown.

'Berries with a Beat' Strawberry Social at Delmanor Elgin Mills

Celebrating the start of summer never tasted so good!

Spending time with friends and family, while being treated to the sweetness of strawberries, made for a memorable strawberry social that was loved by residents and guests of Delmanor Elgin Mills.

The bright and cheery strawberry social consisted of entertainment by the 'Sparklettes, singing old time favourites from the 40's, 50's & 60's.  The seniors enjoyed sipping on strawberry punch while being treated to a variety of fresh strawberries in many delicious desserts.

Everyone enjoyed this special treat while spending time making memories with special friends.

Knitting for a Great Cause at Delmanor Glen Abbey!

The Shoebox Project for Women is a National Charity in Canada that operates local shoebox gift drives in many communities across the country.

Delmanor Glen Abbey teamed up with local businesses and volunteers in the community to make a difference to women living in shelters across the G.T.A.  The 'Knifty Knitters' group from Delmanor Glen Abbey have been busy making headbands for the Shoebox project for the upcoming holiday season.
Some of the gorgeous knitted headbands
Shoe boxes are filled with items that might be enjoyed by women living in shelters.  Inexpensive items such as lotions, make-up, treats, gifts certificates and notebooks are some of the items that are donated for the boxes.  The "Knifty Knitters" of Delmanor Glen Abbey were very proud to be able to donate headbands to be added to the shoe boxes this year.

Two members from the Shoe Box Project came to the retirement residence to do a presentation on the importance and value of this cause and how much the donated headbands will be appreciated by the recipients during the holidays.

Everyone at Delmanor Glen Abbey agreed that this charity is something that they wish to continue to support in the future, and felt wonderful being able to give back.

Royal Ontario Museum Visits Delmanor Northtown

Residents of Delmanor Northtown and guests enjoyed an afternoon with the Royal Ontario Museum.

The seniors and guests were delighted to have artifacts from Beijing's Palace Museum brought to Delmanor Northtown for everyone to view first hand.  For over 500  years, the world's largest imperial palace was only viewed by the Emperor and servants.  The newest exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum features many of these one-of-a-kind artifacts from the palace.  Some of the over 200 treasures have left China for the very first time to come to Toronto.

The Forbidden City Exhibit is truly breathtaking.  To have the court of China's emperors brought in to the lounge of Delmanor Northtown was an honour for everyone that was in attendance.  The Forbidden City presentation was the third visit by the R.O.M to Delmanor and most definitely, one that will not be forgotten.

Chocolate Indulgence at Delmanor Wynford

Throughout the years, chocolate has often received a bad reputation because of its fat content.  In recent years however, the health benefits of chocolate have been realized.  Although to be consumed in moderation, chocolate has been proven to not only provide a uniquely rich and sweet treat, it can also lower cholesterol, prevent cognitive decline and reduce the risk of cardiovascular health problems.

Residents Tosh & June
The residents of Delmanor Wynford were not only informed about the benefits of eating chocolate, they were also given the opportunity to create their own chocolate treats themselves. With the help of the very knowledgeable chocolatiers from Chocolate Tales, chocolatier Stephanie brought white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate to the workshop.  Stephanie explained to the seniors how each type of chocolate provides a different health benefit.  With her guidance, residents learned how to temper chocolate and were able to create chocolate truffles, chocolate lava cakes, and even the widely popular caramel chocolates.

Lillian & June displaying their creations
The residents thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be creative using chocolate as their medium, who wouldn't be!  Following the demonstration, the seniors were each given a gift box to fill with all of their chocolate creations.  Everyone agreed that the best part of the chocolate demonstration was being able to sample all of the delicious chocolate!
