Delmanor Wynford's Charity Golf Tournament

Community members, golf enthusiasts and friends of Delmanor Wynford hit the links at Flemingdon Park Golf Club to raise money in support of neighborhood food banks.

It is the time of year when we all tend to think of what we are thankful for and what we can do to help others during the upcoming holiday season and cold winter months ahead.  The weather held out for the fundraising event so that all of the participants were able to have a wonderful time, while at the same time raising funds for a very valuable organization.  With all of the hard work from volunteers and selfless time donated on behalf of the event, the Delmanor Wynford Charity Golf Tournament raised an impressive $1,000 to contribute to the fundraising efforts for the Churches By The Bluffs Food Bank.

Supporting over 350 families in the area, the Churches Food Bank provides vital support to the community.  Some of the important services offered include grocery and meal programs, as well as a shop with clothing and small housewares.

The Delmanor Wynford Charity Golf Tournament was a  huge success!  Pam Palmer and Anne Bennett were on site to present the cheque to the very appreciative food bank representative.  Great work from everyone involved at Delmanor Wynford for another successful and very enjoyable event!

Delmanor Northtown's Fall Train Tour

There is nothing more beautiful and picturesque than the Canadian countryside in Autumn!

The residents of Delmanor Northtown enjoyed some of the seasons beauty with exceptional views of  Ontario's countryside.  The Credit Valley Explorer is southern Ontario's sightseeing train tour that travels across the Hills of Headwaters departing from Orangeville in the heart of Ontario's Greenbelt.  Known for rolling hills, deep valleys, unsurpassed fall colours and being the headwaters of four major river systems, the Hills of Headwaters region provides a breathtaking backdrop for the Credit Valley Explorer's journey.

The seniors were given a beautiful rest stop in the quaint town of Inglewood, and time to browse some of the lovely boutique shops.  The weather for this tour was absolutely wonderful.  The warm sun cascading on the vibrant colours of autumn leaves provided a glorious experience for everyone involved.

The 74km rail route was established over 130 years ago along the Niagara Escarpment.  It was a real adventure for the Northtown seniors that included comfortable seats, complimentary refreshments, and a lovely meal that was served by the friendly attendants on board, not forgetting all of the wonderful travel companions!

Steps to LivingWell

The two leading causes of fire deaths and injuries among older adults are smoking materials and the misuse of portable space heaters.  Seniors may be affected by health issues such as reduced mobility and poor eyesight and hearing.
When it comes to fire, adults over age 65 are at greater risk than any other group.  At age 65, a person is twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires compared to the rest of the population.  By age 75, the risk increases to three times greater than the general population and four times at age 85.  As most fire deaths occur in the home, it is important that older adults know how to protect themselves.

Sitting in your favourite chair and having a cigarette after dinners may seem to some like a great way to relax – but cigarettes and relaxing can be a deadly mix.  Falling asleep while smoking can ignite clothing, rugs and other materials used in upholstered furniture.  Using alcohol and medications that make you sleepy compound this problem.
During winter months there are more home fires than any other time of year.  Heating devices like space heaters and wood stoves make homes comfortable, but should be used with extra caution.

Many of these deaths and injuries could be prevented with safe smoking and heating practices.  So before you grab a good book and cozy up to the fireplace, make certain you know how to protect yourself.
