Delmanor Glen Abbey Hosts a Euchre Social

Euchre is a relatively easy game to learn in one sitting.  Seniors enjoy playing Euchre for the friendly competition and social time that playing the game provides.  With a little luck, a beginner stands a fair chance of winning the very first game they play!  Regardless though, if winning doesn't come easy, most would agree that playing Euchre is always a good time!

Delmanor Glen Abbey hosted a very successful Euchre Social and invited the community to enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the talented Glen Abbey culinary team.  After the delightful lunch, the euchre afternoon began!  The bright and cheery room was filled with laughter as the friendly the competition was underway.

Many guests commented on how wonderful and warm the Delmanor Glen Abbey experience was and how much they enjoyed the hospitality of staff and residents.  All of the guests left the event with not only fantastic memories, but prizes that were handed out to the winners and door prizes to each of the participants.

Everyone had a fantastic time and look forward to the next opportunity to get together for fun and social activities at Delmanor Glen Abbey. Delmanor Elgin Mills Residents Learn the Art of Weaving

The Burr House Spinners and Weavers Guild promote all fibre arts in the community of Richmond Hill.  The Guild focuses their attention on promoting awareness of weaving and spinning to the public.

The residents of Delmanor Elgin Mills were excited that members of the Historic Burr House were visiting to teach a weaving course.  The seniors were taught by a Burr House volunteer that was skilled in the art of weaving women's change purses.

The residents were encouraged to put their newly acquired skills to the test and were all thrilled with the results!  Doris Leno, Delmanor Elgin MIlls resident and founding member of the Burr House was also present to reminisce and share stories about Richmond Hill 70+ years ago.

The seniors of Delmanor Elgin Mills frequent the Burr House Tea Room throughout the year for afternoon tea and home-made scones.  It truly was a treat to have the Burr House come to them with treats and lessons in the unique art of weaving.

Steps to LivingWell

It’s that time of year again, when we reset our clocks and try to readjust to the time change associated with Daylight Saving Time (DST). Some of us breeze through the change seamlessly, yet others feel out of sorts for days. If you have trouble dealing with this sudden disruption in your routine, it is for good reason.
Even though your brain knows that the time on the clock has changed, your body's internal clock does not. When the clocks move forward in the spring, you'll be robbed of an hour of sleep.
The biggest problem that older adults have with daylight saving time is loss of sleep.  Even a small change in your snooze schedule can knock your natural circadian rhythm out of whack. The resulting lack of sleep in the days following a clock change can lead to grogginess and loss of mental acuity.  We don’t know the exact effects of daylight saving on senior health, however we do know a sleep-deprived senior is more likely to make mistakes regarding their medication and may have an increased risk of falling.

A few simple steps to help you "spring forward" successfully:
1.     Stick to a routine.
2.     Stay away from sleep disrupters like caffeine.
3.     Get some sun: natural sunlight helps regulate your body's natural rhythms.
4.     Work up a sweat: exercise may help you fall asleep easier.
5.     Practice good sleep habits: Is it dark enough? Is it cool enough? Is it quiet enough?
