Dreams Seminar Event at Delmanor Northtown

Have you ever wondered about the meaning of your dreams, or wondered why we dream at night?

Delmanor Northtown hosted a dream interpretation seminar for residents and guests to uncover the answers to these very questions.

Dr. Marina Quattrocchi was the special guest speaker of this very interesting event.  She holds a Master's Degree and Doctoral Degree in Educational Psychology and is the author of the book "Dreamwork Uncovered" that served as the foundation for the presentation.

The Delmanor Northtown chefs prepared an elegant assortment of desserts and refreshments following the presentation for everyone who attended the seminar.

Delmanor Northtown Raises Awareness of Osteoporosis

With November being Osteoporosis Awareness Month and recognizing the importance of being "bone smart" at every age, Delmanor Northtown hosted an Osteoporosis Bone China tea for the residents and guests of Delmanor Northtown.

The event was very popular; the seniors and guests enjoyed the event and valuable information that was provided.  Following the presentation a lovely selection of teas & treats were displayed in the Willowdale Lounge.  A representative from Osteo Canada then presented the guests with gift bags full of educational materials on Osteoporosis and Bone Health.

The Cherubs Visit Delmanor Glen Abbey

The Christmas Season is well underway at Delmanor Glen Abbey as the Oakville Children's Choir presented their first performance of "The Cherubs".

The Cherubs are made up of 5-7 year old boys and girls that rehearsed diligently for this very special show.

The seniors thoroughly enjoyed the angelic voices of the children's choir and the Christmas Spirit that they awoke in all who were in attendance.

Delmanor Wynford Remembers....

Delmanor Wynford residents, families, and staff were on hand to honour the 25 Veterans from Delmanor Wynford, as well as the veterans throughout Canada who sacrificed their lives in military service during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Afghanistan Conflict, and peacekeeping missions.



The twenty-five Veterans at Delmanor Wynford were treated to a special Veterans Lunch in the Wynford Centre followed by a Remembrance Day Ceremony.



Residents, families, and staff were on hand to remember the sacrifices made by our veterans and those throughout Canada. A special Remembrance Day slide show was put together to honour the twenty-five Veterans of Delmanor Wynford and featured pictures of the Veterans, both past and present.



During the ceremony, selected Veterans recited Remembrance Day poems and shared their personal stories. Wynford Dining Room Supervisor, Pierre Hinds, who is also a Veteran, read a selected poem as well. It was an emotional day for all who attended.


 
The veterans were very pleased with the ceremony and were able to share their stories with each other and other residents. It was a great opportunity for residents and staff to learn more about the Veterans at Delmanor Wynford and honour their sacrifices. Lest We Forget!

Delmanor Wynford "Knit Wits" Donate to Local Shelter

The Delmanor Wynford "Knit Wits" proudly donated teddy bears to the Red Door Family Shelter.

The "Knit Wits" have been working hard throughout the last several months knitting teddy bears.  The adorable bears are various sizes and colours and have put a smiles on many faces.

Through the generous donation of time and effort by Delmanor Wynford "Knit Wits", they were able to donate 65 hand knitted teddy bears to the Red Door Family Shelter.

The staff at the Red Door Family Shelter were overjoyed by the generous donation of so many teddy bears.  Some of the bears will be give out at Christmas to children who live at the shelter and others will be added to gift baskets for newborn babies and their mothers that are living at the shelter.

Delmanor Northtown Residents Visit the Royal!

For some, attending the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is a long-standing tradition, taking in the animals and the award winning vegetables is an annual tradition.  This year, the seniors of Delmanor Northtown didn't miss out on any of this fun.  They spent the day enjoying the sights and sounds of the fair, including the petting farm, displays, shows and animals!

The seniors spent a lovely day enjoying a taste of country life in the city.  They indulged in plenty of fresh food samples from local food vendors before heading back to Delmanor Northtown.

Delmanor Glen Abbey Takes on the Ultimate "No Work" Workout

Along with the wonderful sponsorship from Medi-Chair, 1000 veterans and family members spent the afternoon enjoying each others company and reflecting on times gone by.


The entire community and everyone in attendance at the Oakville Convention Centre were proud to honour the brave men and women in this heartwarming and memorable way.

Delmanor Glen Abbey Honours Veterans with a Heartfelt Service

As part of a week devoted to honouring veterans, the residents of Delmanor Glen Abbey held a service to reflect and give thanks to all of the men & women that served our country in war.

It was a very emotional time as Rev. Kersey spoke of "Where were you 66 yrs ago May"?  Rev Kersey reminded everyone of the contributions of those that operated the factories and kept the homes while family members fought for our freedom abroad.

Delmanor Glen Abbey Celebrates Men's Day!

The residents of Delmanor Glen Abbey, along with staff & guests, spent an afternoon celebrating and honouring the men that reside at Delmanor Glen Abbey.





There were 40 residents that enjoyed a lunch of pizza, wings, and beer that was served by co-op students and the Grade 9 "bring your child to work day" students.

Toronto Maple Leafs Remembrance Day Tribute

The Toronto Maple Leafs honoured this 92nd Remembrance Day with a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who have served our country with bravery and valour.

One of Delmanor Elgin Mills' very own residents, Mr. Jack Wellsbury, was recognized for his service.

Mr. Wellsbury served in the Queen's Own Rifle Regiment during WW2.  This regiment was the leading wave in the D Day Invasion on June 6, 1944.  During the war, 393 Queen's Own were killed in battle, and a further 873 were wounded.

Everyone in attendance at the Air Canada Centre, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the entire viewing nation were moved by the tribute and honoured to be able to witness one of the extraordinary men & women who selflessly sacrificed so much in service to our great country.

The entire Delmanor Family are honoured to know Mr. Wellsbury and the many men & women who have served our country with dignity & respect.

Delmanor Glen Abbey Show their Kindness to the Community

Over one hundred individuals residing in Delmanor Glen Abbey's local vicinity rely on the Kerr St. Mission.  The Residents and staff participated as a community in random acts of kindness in their neighbourhood to help those less fortunate.



The seniors and Delmanor Glen Abbey staff prepared a beautiful lunch for the community to enjoy at the Kerr St. Mission in Oakville.  The lunch included sandwiches, veggies, dessert, coffee and tea compliments of Delmanor Glen Abbey.




The residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and the warm feelings that came with helping others.

Delmanor Elgin Mills was Dancing & Dining with the McConaghy Seniors Centre

The seniors of Delmanor Elgin Mills visited the Mc Conaghy Seniors Centre for a dinner & dance in honour of Halloween fun.

The event was catered by the Elgin Mills Executive Chefs who prepared a delightful meal for all of the guests.

Following the meal, the evening of dancing was underway, led by the McConaghy Seniors Centre square dancing instructors.

All of the friends in attendance were treated to a wonderful and memorable evening.

The Pirates of the Caribbean Come to Delmanor Wynford

Delmanor Wynford residents and staff dressed in their best Halloween costumes for the Delmanor Wynford Halloween party.  The theme of the party was Pirates of the Caribbean.  Staff members dressed as pirates and treated the seniors to a pirate-themed lunch, including Jack Sparrow Soup and Dead Man's Breast Chicken.

The Delmanor Executive Chefs prepared a wonderful meal with a pirate inspired flair.  The Danny Mcerlain Duo followed lunch with musical entertainment, including the Halloween songs, "Monster Mash", & "Thriller".

Residents were up and dancing and all were having a blast at the event.  Participants were awarded prizes for best costume & best carved pumpkin.  Resident Bill Kelly was awarded the prize for best costume overall.  What a unique theme and wonderful day for everyone who attended the Delmanor Wynford Halloween bash!

Delmanor Northtown Celebrates Halloween!

On October 31st, residents, families and Delmanor Northtown staff celebrated Halloween with an afternoon full of entertainment, treats and fun.



The residents were treated to goodies all afternoon, many of which were prepared by the talented Delmanor Chefs.






The retirement residence was filled with Halloween themed music, pumpkin carving & decorating, and a competition for best costume with prizes.



The residents had a such a fantastic afternoon that they have already started planning for costumes for next years' celebrations!

Delmanor Northtown Visits the Farm!

The residents of Delmanor Northtown took an afternoon trip to Whittamore's Market in Markham to enjoy the autumn splendour and fresh Ontario produce.

Sixteen seniors paused from city life to take in the sights and smells of Ontario in the fall.  The residents strolled through the lovely market, picking up fresh fruit, flowers and warm home-made pies.

This cherished day refreshed the seniors and has quickly become a favourite fall location to visit in years to come.
