Universal Festival of Lights Presentation at Delmanor Northtown

Residents living at Delmanor Northtown not only attend meaningful and informative lectures, they are also invited to be guest speakers and share their knowledge & experiences with fellow residents.
Diana Mingail's seminar “Lighting The Night” was a wonderful talk about many festivals of light that take place around the world.
Diana shared how in primitive times, people waited anxiously for the winter days of darkness to end and for light and warmth to return. In celebration of this long awaited time of year, many people in various countries started annual traditions and customs to mark this happy event.

Diana explained how the ancient “Festival of Light -or- Hanukkah.” is the lighting of candles for eight nights, to commemorate victory over a tyrant and the return of their religious freedom.

The Delmanor Northtown seniors were touched by the true stories of daring attempts to celebrate Hanukkah in camps, and secluded communities during war times.  Residents were encouraged to share some of their personal and social memories of Hanukkah.  Everyone felt very blessed as they reflected on difficult times gone by, while the gratitude of the season filled every heart in attendance.
