Masquerade Balls were a feature of the Carnival season in the 15th century, and involved elaborate pageants and royal processions. During the 16th century Renaissance, Masquerade Balls were extended into costumed public festivities in Italy and became very popular in Venice. At the end of the 18th century, the use and tradition of masks gradually began to decline, until they disappeared altogether. A new resurgence of Masquerade Balls began in the late 1990’s in North America and has continued ever since.

With the cool weather approaching, fall
seemed like the perfect time for a ball! An evening of mystery and intrigue awaited
our residents and invited guests as they attended Delmanor Wynford’s Masquerade
Fall Ball. Everyone dressed the part, donning evening wear and of course, a
mask! The Executive Chef and her team prepared a scrumptious dinner which
included plenty of fall favourites such as Butternut Squash & Green Apple
Soup, Spinach Salad with Pecans & Goat Cheese, Cornish Hen with Wild
Mushroom Couscous, and Homemade Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream.

Following
dinner, residents and guests enjoyed the sound of Oscar K’s Big Band. The music
inspired many to get up and dance! There was ballroom dancing including
waltzes, tangos, swing and even polkas! It was a fantastic evening of dining,
dancing and friendship which was a wonderful way to welcome the cooler fall season!
