The tradition of colouring eggs spans over centuries and
has become a widely celebrated Easter custom in many parts of the world.
Families gather together on Holy Thursday to decorate a beautiful basket of colorful eggs; a reminder of Jesus’ resurrection and the new life on Easter Sunday. In the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, Easter eggs are dyed red to represent the blood of Christ, shed on the Cross, and the hard shell of the egg symbolized the sealed Tomb of Christ — the cracking of which symbolized his resurrection from the dead.
At Delmanor Northtown, the community gathered together to
celebrate Easter by creating their very own Pysanka. A Pysanka is a Ukrainian
Easter egg, decorated using a wax-resist (batik) method and vibrant colours, all with a deep-rooted
meaning. The Northtown residents were amazed at
the beauty of creating these colourful eggs and enjoyed learning about all of the
traditions and customs that are celebrated around the world.
