In today's age of high tech electronics, it is important for
everyone to nurture their spirits with pleasures & past times from days gone
by.
The time honored Canadian tradition of extracting maple
syrup was demonstrated at Delmanor Glen Abbey during a visit by Sean Chubbuck, who
brought his own exaction equipment, and even a part of a tree!
Tools of the trade untouched by time showed how the most
basic tradition can produce the beloved results that we all enjoy today. The residents of Delmanor Glen Abbey were
delighted to have an experience in their own homes that is normally reserved for those that are
out in the wilderness.
After the demonstration, a prepared quantity of maple syrup was boiled
and then poured over crushed snow to create the most deliciously sticky maple
candy, with a quality far surpassing anything
found in a store. The Delmanor GlenAbbey residents had a truly gourmet experience!
Bringing the seniors of Delmanor Glen Abbey together to
share traditions does a great deal to foster feelings of home and
community. By sharing in the project and
experience, and appreciating Canadian roots, bonds were formed that will be sure
to last long after the delicious smell of maple syrup has disappeared from the hallways
of Delmanor Glen Abbey. Even residents
that are relatively new to Canada felt a stronger connection to our great
country, and appreciated the opportunity to experience a tradition that was
developed by early settlers many years ago.
