Animals have a way of
connecting with us that lift our spirits and heals our souls. The chance to meet
and greet exotic animals gave the residents of Delmanor Glen Abbey an
experience that will not be forgotten. Hands On Exotics visited the residence with birds,
marsupials, and a very playful 20lb lynx kitten that romped like a giant
house cat. New animals that residents never knew existed even made appearances, such as the
‘silk chicken’, which looked like something from a Dr. Seuss book. Its delicate
feathers tickled fingers and the spiny ridges of the hedgehog showed how
something so cute can also be so prickly.
Expanding our horizons is something we should all do regularly, and taking a hands on approach is a fantastic way to involve all of our senses. Doing so in a shared experience with friends is also a great way to form bonds, relish friendships, and make new ones as well. Talk of the animal friends resonated through the halls of Delmanor Glen Abbey for days after, ensuring that the fond memories will always be treasured.

The animal handlers
from Hands On Exotics also gave the Glen Abbey residents some insight about animal habitats, their
natural environments, and even their diet to provide an appreciation of how
different their homelands are from our own. The Sugar Glider came from as far
as Australia, and onlookers were thrilled to have such an adorable native of the
continent visit their home.
Laughs were had at the
end of the presentation, when the audience was presented with an over sized cardboard box to test the universal feline
love of boxes. The audience watched as a baby wildcat turn into a purring ball of
mischief that wanted nothing but playful attention. The residents realized that all animals need proper stimulation to bring out their warmth, fun, and
affection, and they look forward to having Hands on Exotics visit Delmanor Glen Abbey again soon.
