Delmanor Elgin Mills residents were given a sneak peak preview of the Spring & Summer line from Tanjay Clothing. Prior to the show, residents were treated to a lovely sit down meal and then were offered delicious pastries and coffee while they watched the show.
Hillcrest Mall Tanjay Manager, Angie, brought in a sampling of 20 different pieces being featured at their store. Five lovely models from Delmanor Elgin Mills volunteered to display the clothing for the show. They gracefully wore the beautiful clothing for the crowd that had gathered to watch. Everyone loved seeing the bright and summery clothes that were so elegantly displayed by the Delmanor models. Cheers and applause was heard as each model came down the 'catwalk'.
Residents were given the opportunity to purchase any items that they fancied from the display, and had them delivered right to their doors! With the cold and snowy days of January upon us, this event was the best shopping experience they could imagine!

Learning from Handwriting at Delmanor Glen Abbey
The residents of
Delmanor Glen Abbey enjoyed laughs and learning with Elaine Charal, as she
demonstrated the science and methodology of Handwriting Analysis. Elaine is a
keynote speaker and certified graphologist, implementing analysis and
techniques utilized by investigators to extract hidden information. What was uncovered
by our own residents led to epiphanies, chuckles, and cries of ‘That’s exactly
me!’
Offering a step by
step walk through of every curve and line, Elaine identified parts of each
resident that they were proud of and reminded us of how intricate our sense of
self can be. Residents found in their signatures evidence of their caring
natures, nurturing inclinations, and undeniable strength. Having this unfurled
beside good friends allowed each resident to form bonds and affirmations,
ensuring that even if one thinks they may have lost touch with old feelings,
others can still see it within. Many hugs were had that day.
By explaining the
methods of analysis, Elaine also offered advice on how simple changes to ones
writing can affect ourselves for positive change. Something as easy as larger
capital letters can work towards greater feelings of confidence and
empowerment. A presentation also explored the writing, and even fashion, of
celebrities and politicians to show how line and shape conveys character.
A sophisticated
offering of coffees and pastries afterwards allowed the residents of Delmanor
to further explore their findings with each other, applying what they learned
to figures evident in the news as well as seeing ways to strengthen their
favourite aspects of themselves. A wonderful and inspiration time was had by all.

Willie McKnight Aviation Presentation at Delmanor Elgin Mills
The
spirit and passion of WWII RAF Ace William "Willie" McKnight was at Delmanor Elgin Mills recently for a wonderful presentation by WW2 Historian, Jeffrey Tradburks. Jeffrey brought together his
passion for history and his love of aviation for an interactive
presentation that captivated the audience.
"Willie" McKnight's Hurricane Mk I |
Residents were treated to
visual and audio clips of Willie McKnight during his brief but impressive career as a pilot in the Second World War, the Battle of France and Battle of Britain.
Jeffrey's passion for aviation led him to create a very impressive ¼ scale model of the
Hawker Hurricane, McKnight's aircraft. With a working
propeller and lights, the detail and accuracy of his replica was
astounding! Residents lined up to
get a closer look of his fascinating model.
Delmanor Elgin Mills and WW2 veteran Rick were captivated by the model in the photo below, bringing back memories of his time in
the service. This presentation provided many
opportunities for residents to share their memories of war with the group and
to learn more about Canadian Pilot Willie McKnight and his contributions during the Second World War.
Willie McKnight died in 1941 at the age of 22. Although he has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede Memorial Englefield Green in Surrey, UK. With the knowledge and passion from historians such as Jeffrey Tradburks, heroes of war like William McKnight will be remembered for generations to come.

Steps to LivingWell
Life is full of
traditions, many handed down through the years, and some newly created between
family and friends. Either way, traditions are part of the colourful
fabric that intertwine our lives and hold us together; transcending time and
distance. One common tradition many people have is to make New Year’s
resolutions – promises of actions to make ourselves better, happier and
healthier. They may be a commitment to keep in touch, quit bad habits, and
pursue the good things in life. Making New Year’s resolutions is easy and
can be quite fun. The hard part is putting those resolutions into action and
maintaining the mom entum to keep
those promises throughout the year.
This year, try
something different. When making your list of resolutions, think of ways
to involve family and friends as support. Whether you live near or far,
deciding to join forces and make New Year’s resolutions together, increases the
odds that you stay true to your goals. Providing accountability for each
other, not only presents valuable reinforcement, but also offers the
opportunity of staying in touch on a regular basis throughout the year.
By helping each other, you gain a greater sense of purpose, which can be
very meaningful in the life of a loved one or friend.
Whether you want
to lose weight or accomplish another goal, there is no single solution that
works for everyone. The key to
maintaining your goals is to try new techniques and find ways to stay
motivated.

Delmanor Wynford's Support of Wellspring Centre
Anne Armstrong Gibson founded Wellspring in 1992. After being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1988, she met many fears; but what she feared most was the isolation that came during her treatment period. This loneliness led her to attempt to fill this void for others who may be in a similar situation that she experienced.
Anne worked with oncology experts, families and friends of those living with cancer to create Wellspring. Wellspring is a not for profit organization that provides psychological, emotional, social, spiritual, and informational support to individuals and their families that are living with cancer. Her idea was extremely well received as the need for this type of service was clearly evident by the number of enrollments she received almost immediately. Wellspring has since grown to 10 locations across Canada! Since Anne's passing in 1995, each Wellspring location keeps her vision alive by providing an innovative and creative approach to the overall care of a person living with cancer.
The Delmanor Wynford 'Knit Wits' Knitting Club were inspired this year to knit something in support of those that are living with cancer. After seeing a fellow resident bravely battle her illness, the Knitters wanted to create a project to help support those that are fighting the disease. After speaking with representatives from Wellspring, the 'Knit Wits' learned that Wellspring requires that all people who enter the building during the winter months wear slippers in order to keep the floors safe and clean for everyone. The 'Knit Wits' were thrilled with the opportunity to knit slippers and donate them to the Centre for the winter season.
In less than one month, the 'Knit Wits' had knit 22 pairs of slippers, and the knitting continues! The Delmanor Wynford residents visited Wellspring Centre themselves to deliver the slippers that they had created. A Wellspring coordinator gratefully accepted the wonderful and thoughtful donations for the house and gave the Wynford group a tour of the building. All of the Wellspring staff and volunteers were overjoyed with the beautiful slippers and the skill and time that the residents donated to them! Wellspring is such a wonderful haven for those battling cancer in order to feel safe and less isolated. Way to go Delmanor Wynford 'Knit Wits"! You have amazed us all yet again!

Painting with Friends at Delmanor Wynford
'Paint Nights' are trending in the local community. The events are wonderful opportunities for people of all ages to experience painting and make new friends. One of the reasons why paint nights are so popular is that they do not require artistic skills in order to participate. All that is needed is a positive attitude and a desire to try something new. For those with previous artistic skills, the events allow further growth in their art, along with sharing tips and techniques with others.
Delmanor Wynford has many resident artists of all levels that always enjoy the opportunity to get together for an evening of fun with friends. Each of the participants were provided with a blank canvas and five colours to create with; red, blue, yellow, black and white. The artists were then shown the image that they were to recreate. The residents used their imaginations, along with their paint palettes to create their own versions of the subject provided. All of the creations were fantastic! Residents were very pleased with their works and the memorable evening spent with friends. We are likely going to see more Delmanor Wynford 'Paint Nights' in the months to come!
