The Oakville Curling Club has been a landmark in
the heart of downtown Oakville since its establishment in 1954. Throughout the
years the OCC has played host to several high profile events and bonspiels at
the local, provincial and national level – seeing some of the greatest Canadian
curlers “sweep” through their doors.
The Senior Men’s Bonspiel celebrated its 23rd
installment in early December with Delmanor Glen Abbey being the title sponsor for the
past 6 years. The Bonspiel saw 32 teams (128 curlers) take part in one of the
OCC’s highest profile events of the year. Drawing from teams throughout the GTA,
the 3 day Bonspiel was highlighted by the annual “First Rock Ceremony” and
Procession as well as the prize and trophy presentation.
Delmanor Glen Abbey is proud to support community
organizations such as the Oakville Curling Club in their efforts to promote
physical fitness through social, recreational and competitive curling. First
Rock “Skip” Bill, one of the pioneers of the OCC/Delmanor Senior Men’s Bonspiel, that is 96 years young is proof that everyone can enjoy one of Canada’s truly
great sports!
