Even though March is just around the corner, the cold
weather and lack of strong sunshine can result in the February blahs that don’t
thaw until spring. It’s that time of
year when our energy drops, exercise dwindles and our new year’s resolutions
lose their zest! There are many ways to
stay energized and healthy until spring time comes … it’s really important that
we don’t let our guards down and fall into habits that can stress our bodies and
minds.
There are, however, steps you can take to boost your mood
and even enjoy the remainder of the winter!
Resist the urge to hibernate and get moving instead! When you exercise, it releases endorphins in
your brain, which are natural mood lifters.
Exercise will help you sleep better, too, and this is another component
of beating a “blah” mood. If you’re
tired, you’re much more likely to be cranky and irritable, but after a good
night’s sleep it’s easier to keep a positive outlook.
One thing most people do not do during the holidays is skimp
on sweets, which is why you should consider cutting back now. Sugar impacts your mood on a number of
levels, not the least of which is causing spikes and crashes to your blood
sugar level, which can make you feel like you’re riding an emotional roller
coaster.
