Delmanor Elgin Mills Tour Beautiful St. Jacob's Country!

The picturesque village of St. Jacobs is well known for the year round Farmers Market as well as a population of approximately 4,000 Old Order Mennonites.

The weather certainly co-operated for the residents of Delmanor Elgin Mills who were thrilled about their upcoming tour of St. Jacobs and Elmira.

The seniors started their day with a hearty Mennonite breakfast at Marion's Country Cupboard.  The host at the restaurant was dressed in traditional Mennonite attire and served the wholesome meal family style.  Residents were given the opportunity to ask questions of the tour guide during their morning breakfast treat.

After observing Mennonite culture in St. Jacobs, the residents boarded the Delmanor Bus and headed over to Elmira.  Well known for its spring Maple Syrup Festival, Elmira is a lush farming community that celebrates the Mennonite way of life.  The seniors were taken back in time on their tour as they saw where citizens carried out their day to day lives both now and similarly in times gone by.

The stunning fall colours provided a gorgeous backdrop for pictures that were snapped in front of  buggies and the historic Kissing Bridge.

Everyone had a wonderful time on this relaxing tour.    Realizing and taking advantage of all that our local community has to offer made the day even more rewarding.

Despite the recent tragic fire that destroyed the main building at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, the community remains strong and very optimistic that they will rebuild.

Delmanor Wynford's First Resident Art Show!

For some, art is a vocation, for others, art is a hobby. But regardless of a person’s motivation for creating artwork, there is one aspect of art which many residents at Delmanor Wynford can attest to: creating art has many therapeutic benefits. It has long been known that for people of every age, the act of creation is life-enhancing and nourishing for the spirit.

Considering all the benefits of art and creativity, Delmanor Wynford hosted its first Resident Art Show that featured the works of fifteen residents. Each artist was encouraged to showcase their work in a large display that was exhibited to the residents and staff at Delmanor Wynford as well as the surrounding community. Mediums used for the pieces ranged from oil, acrylic, water colour, ink, and charcoal. Each artist displayed up to ten pieces for the show.

The evening prior to the Grand Opening, all artists showcasing pieces were invited to an Artist Wine & Cheese Party, that provided the artists with an opportunity to view and discuss each others work. The artists really enjoyed the evening getting to know each other and discussing the inspiration behind their work.

Honouring the Elegance of the Titanic at Delmanor Northtown

The residents of Delmanor Northtown took a step back in time to April 1912.  Wearing top hats with tail coats and elegant dresses accented with the shimmer of fine jewellery, the evening quickly became a timeless memory for everyone that attended.

The event was filled with music and fine dining.  The elegant atmosphere encouraged the seniors to wear their finest, which led to the sophistication of the affair.  Northtown resident Beverly commented "everyone was complimenting each other on how wonderful they looked!"

The delicious meal prepared by the Northtown culinary team was a first class experience. The menu items selected replicated the courses served on the majestic ocean liner over 100 years ago.  Much like the 1958 movie hit, it was truly a 'night to remember'!

Helicoper Touring with Delmanor Glen Abbey

It is obvious why helicopter tours are so popular with people - they combine adventure with spectacular views to make memories that last a lifetime.

Aboard the Delmanor Bus, five brave residents were anxiously awaiting their trip to Niagara Falls.  The seniors shared their excitement about the upcoming tour with energetic conversations and ideas about what was to come.

For some, it was their first opportunity to ever ride in a helicopter, and for others, a decision to board was made in the final few minutes before departure.  What an amazing decision it was!

It was all thumbs up for the Delmanor seniors

A beautiful clear day, along with majestic views of rainbows appearing and disappearing from all directions gave the seniors a ride that won't soon be forgotten!  The Glen Abbey residents didn't miss a moment of the awe inspiring views and didn't waste any time taking advantage of the one-of-a-kind picture taking opportunities.

What a wonderful opportunity for the residents to enjoy an experience that was truly magnificent.  If you are interested in learning more about the exciting recreation activities taking place at Delmanor Glen Abbey, or if you would like to tour the residence, please contact Kelley Bristow, Marketing & Community Relations Manager at (905) 469-3232 or online at delmanor.com

Steps to LivingWell

When you retire you think you’ll pursue all sorts of new and exciting hobbies, but sometimes finding a hobby or two may not be that easy. Hobbies should have a mind body connection. Hobbies need not be expensive but they need to be fun and not too strenuous. In fact there are hundreds of hobbies out there just waiting for older adults to participate in.
Quality leisure time and physical activity promotes a healthier lifestyle.  Our bodies are meant to be active and to move.  Many people, especially as they age, tend to become inactive and sedentary preferring to watch television to help occupy their day.
In search of a healthy habit and an enjoyable hobby?  Why not try walking. Walking is a choice that is easily suited to almost any lifestyle. Walking is a hobby where you don’t have to learn a new skill, invest in a new wardrobe or purchase equipment. It’s free and you can walk anywhere. You can take a long walk or a short one; go alone, in pairs, or even join a walking club.
Getting involved in traditional hobbies such as cards and board games, can help to keep your mind alert and engaged. Whether you are playing bridge, scrabble or euchre, you have the added benefits of improving your social and emotional well-being.
Choosing a hobby shouldn't be to simply pass time; but rather choose a hobby that helps keeps you active and involved. Hobbies can and should be life enriching if they are well matched to the interests, abilities and desires of those pursuing them.
Brought to you by your LivingWell Coaches.

Celebrating Grandparents' Day at Delmanor Glen Abbey

Grandparents connect us to the values, stories, and history of our families and our communities.  What better time than on Grandparents' Day was there to share memories and family traditions, and more importantly - to create new ones by spending the day with grandparents.

The spectators were in awe as they were able to get up close and personal with the magnificent animals.  The fun presentation was followed by pogos, pop and popsicles; much to the delight of the children of all ages!
