Food for Thought at Delmanor Elgin Mills

Delmanor residents, community members and staff gathered for an interactive presentation by Chris Hatch, Board of Director for the Ontario Association of Food Banks.

Mr. Hatch spoke of hunger in Ontario, how seniors are affected and why people are still going hungry.

Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, this presentation helped the audience be mindful of the needs of others, plus provided an opportunity share some of the many ways that Delmanor Elgin Mills gives back to those less fortunate.

The 'Knit Wits' are a wonderful example of how Delmanor Elgin Mills gives back to those in need.  Among other fundraising events, the Delmanor "Knit Wits" knit scarves, hats & mitts and host a raffle each December to support a family during the holiday season.

This presentation provided a great interactive discussion between the residents and Chris Hatch, along with a better understanding of the hunger issues in Ontario.

Despite the range of experience of the fishermen and fisher women (for some it was their first time ever fishing), all of the seniors were able to catch at least one fish!  The residents were thrilled with their catch.  Everyone had a great day fishing & look forward to another fishing adventure next spring.
