IRISH EYES WERE SMILING ON DELMANOR NORTHTOWN

St Patrick's Day was celebrated by Residents, invited guests and staff at Delmanor Northtown.

This 'unofficial holiday' means we get to celebrate the rich history of St. Patrick's Day. For those who love 'all things Irish', you could find Irish dancers, green beverages, an abundance of shamrocks, people dressed in many shades of green, along with authentic Irish music & song.

Gentlemen's Day at Delmanor Glen Abbey

On March 9th, the gentlemen at Delmanor Glen Abbey had their first ever Men's Day!

The Lunchbucket Club

48 men attended this event in The Players Lounge for a luncheon that was hosted by Glen Abbey Executive Chef Mark and their Environmental Manager, Ted.

St. Johns United Church joined in on the fun with 10 gentlemen members in attendance along with the Lunch Bucket Club. The seniors were given blessings by Glen Abbey's own Reverend Ted Kersey and warmly welcomed by Paul Erikson, one of Glen Abbey's first residents.

The fun continued after lunch with games of pool, cribbage & poker. And what men's event would be complete without a James Bond film in the theatre.
The day was such a huge success that the retirement community has already begun planning the second Men's Day in June!

Residents with Avro Arrow

All of the seniors attending, have lived through the development of the Avro Arrow; the advanced supersonic, twin-engined, all weather jet aircraft, developed in 1949 until its controversial cancellation in 1959. This was a thrilling event that brought back many memories and much Canadian pride to the Delmanor Residents.

Delmanor Northtown Demonstrates the Benefits of Tai Chi

Delmanor Northtown held a Tai Chi demonstration on February 24th as an introduction to their fitness program.  Tai Chi combines a type of meditative relaxation process with flowing movements, that result in benefits to both the power of the body and the mind.

Tai Chi is especially beneficial to seniors who suffer from arthritis or who are recovering from injuries since it is very low impact and puts minimal pressure on joints and tendons.

Residents and welcomed guests worked on improving their range of motion, flexibility and balance.  Although low impact, the seniors would benefit from improved cardiovascular health and lower blood pressure with regular participation.  The addition of Tai Chi is proving to be an excellent compliment to the many other exciting programs taking place at Delmanor Northtown.
